On May 29, 2021, the 50,000 semi-submersible vessel “Xiang An Kou” for COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd, built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, successfully completed the sea trial and dive test and returned to the shipyard. The ship is integrated with the main propulsion system by CSIC 704th Research Institute. Noris provided the total solution for the main propulsion remote control system.

“Xiang An Kou”, overall length is 216.7 meters, width is 43 meters, depth is 13 meters, design draft is 9.6 meters, diving draft is 26 meters and deadweight is 48,000 tons. The vessel is equipped with advanced DP2 power positioning system. The main propulsion system is equipped with two 6000kW x 94.8 r/min inverter motors.

Noris’ solution for the main propulsion remote control system for the vessel “Xiang An Kou” includes control handles, display panels, and meters, in the local, engine control console, main bridge console, after bridge control console, wing port side & starboard consoles. Two inverter motors can be started and stopped simultaneously at any control position.

Based on system security and stability considerations, two redundant CANBus are used for communication between the handle for each control position, the main control module, and the CPU module.

Touch screen and various display meters

Compared with the ordinary main propulsion remote control system, and according to the characteristics of this project, each control handle of Noris for the “Xiang An Kou” is controlled by the electric axis synchronous follower method, which can perfectly realize the disturbance-free switching between the control positions. The master-slave relationship of the handle can also be used to control the speeed increase and decrease of the two motors at the same time at Engine Control Console, Main Bridge Console, After Bridge Control Console, Wing port side& starboard consoles, precisely guaranteeing the ship's requirements for speed stability.

In addition to that, each control position is equipped with NFU control to maintain the safety of the navigation so that the crew can quickly switch to NFU control if the FU system fails.

During the commissioning and sea trial period for nearly one month, our service engineers actively cooperated with the shipyard's work plan and inspection arrangement. Our engineers outstandingly completed the commissioning and trial tasks and was highly recognized by the shipyard and ship owner.

Ship inspection

The main propulsion remote control system provided by Noris for the vessel has passed various trials and tests conducted by the shipyard and classification society, and its functions and performance have met the design requirements of the vessel, contributing to the smooth delivery of the vessel.
